How to Choose Your First Anti-Ageing Treatment

Share the Post:

The number of aesthetic treatments available today is simultaneously a benefit and a challenge. Patients arrive at their first consultation having researched extensively — and often more confused than when they started.

The choices are not random. There is a logical framework for approaching your first anti-ageing treatment, and it begins with one honest question: what is the primary driver of the change you want to address?

Start With a Correct Diagnosis

Before any treatment conversation, the first step is understanding what is actually driving the change you are experiencing. This determines everything else.

The main drivers of visible facial ageing are:

  • Volume loss — hollowing of the cheeks, temples, or under-eye area; a "deflated" appearance
  • Structural laxity — sagging at the jawline, jowling, heaviness of the brow or midface
  • Skin quality change — dullness, fine texture change, early wrinkling, loss of radiance
  • Pigmentation — sun damage, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, uneven tone
  • Dynamic lines — lines that form with expression and may be becoming more established

Most patients experience more than one of these simultaneously. The purpose of a good consultation is to identify which is most prominent, which is driving the others, and what the correct priority order for treatment should be.

Common First Treatment Choices and Who They Suit

Bio-remodelling (Youth Preserve) An excellent first treatment for patients in their late 20s to 40s whose primary concern is a change in skin quality — skin that looks tired, less hydrated, or less "alive" than it used to. It improves skin biology rather than adding volume or providing lift.

Neurotoxin (muscle relaxant) treatments Appropriate for patients whose primary concern is dynamic lines — crow's feet, forehead lines, frown lines between the brows. Conservative use in first-time patients is standard; the goal is softening without freezing.

Laser and light treatments (including Quattro Toning) Well-suited as first treatments for patients whose primary concern is skin surface — pigmentation, texture, tone, and radiance.

Focused ultrasound lifting (Ultherapy Prime) A better starting point for patients in their 30s and 40s who are noticing structural change — brow heaviness, early jowling, loss of jawline definition. An investment treatment: results emerge over months and are sustained over one to two years.

Dermal fillers Appropriate when volume loss is the primary driver, or when structural changes such as chin projection or cheek hollow are the primary concern. First-time patients typically begin with conservative volumes.

What to Avoid

Choosing based on trend rather than need. The most popular treatment of the moment is not necessarily the right one for your face.

Addressing the symptom rather than the cause. Adding volume where the primary issue is laxity, or vice versa, may not address the right layer.

Going too aggressive too soon. First treatments should be conservative. The goal is to understand how your face responds before committing to larger changes.

The Consultation Is the Starting Point

No amount of online research substitutes for a proper in-person assessment by a qualified aesthetic doctor. Face-to-face assessment of anatomy, tissue quality, and movement is indispensable.

At a consultation, our doctors will assess your skin comprehensively, ask about your goals and lifestyle, and make recommendations based on what is appropriate for your stage and anatomy — not what is simply available or popular.

Book a consultation to begin your aesthetic journey with a proper assessment and a plan that makes sense for your face.
