This is Part 2 of 4 in The Foundation & The Micro Edit series: The Right Small Amount · The Base Layer · The Micro Edit · The 12 Month Plan
By Dr Low Chai Ling, Founder and Medical Director, SW1 Clinic.
In the first article of this series, we set out a simple idea: structure comes before detail. Before any face can carry fine, precise work well, it needs a stable foundation. This article covers the three treatments we group under that heading: Ultherapy Prime, Thermatight and Youth Preserve.
Each works on a different tissue level. Together, they form the base layer that later, smaller treatments are built on.
Ultherapy Prime: structural stimulation
Ultherapy Prime is a focused ultrasound treatment used for non-invasive lifting and tightening. Mechanically, it delivers ultrasound energy beneath the skin surface to create controlled points of thermal stimulation at selected depths, without a surgical incision. This stimulation initiates the body’s own repair response, which can lead to collagen contraction and gradual remodelling over the following months.
A key feature of the system is real-time visualisation, which allows the treating doctor to see the relevant tissue layers before and during treatment, rather than working from surface assessment alone.
Ultherapy Prime tends to suit patients with mild to moderate skin laxity who are not looking for a surgical degree of repositioning. It is one of the more established options for HIFU Singapore patients search for when researching non-invasive lifting, though as we have written elsewhere, HIFU is a category rather than a single treatment, and suitability still depends on individual assessment.
Because the effect depends on the body’s own collagen remodelling, results are gradual and build over weeks to months, not immediately after the appointment.

Thermatight: tissue tightening at another level
Thermatight uses radiofrequency energy rather than ultrasound. Radiofrequency delivers controlled heat to targeted tissue depths, encouraging a tightening response and supporting collagen quality in the treated area.
Ultrasound and radiofrequency are not interchangeable, even though both fall under the broad umbrella of skin tightening Singapore clinics offer. They deliver energy differently and can be used to address different tissue levels within the same face. Where appropriate, Thermatight may be considered alongside Ultherapy Prime as part of the same foundational plan, addressing a different level of the skin rather than repeating the same effect.
Thermatight generally suits patients looking for a gentler, more frequent tightening option, often as a maintenance treatment once a foundation has already been established, or for patients with earlier stage laxity who are not yet candidates for a stronger structural treatment.
Youth Preserve: supporting the skin’s own repair
Youth Preserve takes a different approach again. Rather than reshaping structure or delivering thermal energy, it is a regenerative, bio-remodelling injectable used to support the skin’s hydration, resilience and repair capacity from within.
This distinction matters when setting expectations. A structural treatment can firm and lift. It cannot, on its own, fix skin that looks dull, dehydrated or tired in texture. Bio-remodelling Singapore patients ask about generally refers to treatments in this category: injectable approaches intended to improve the underlying quality of the skin itself, rather than its position.
Youth Preserve is typically delivered as a course of sessions rather than a single visit, with the skin’s texture and resilience improving gradually across the course rather than immediately. It is often paired with a structural treatment such as Ultherapy Prime or Thermatight, addressing tone and quality while the other treatment addresses tightening, so that a face is not left firmer but still looking tired.

Why structure comes first
A face treated with fine, precise work, such as the Micro Edit treatments we will cover in Part 3 of this series, tends to hold that work better once a stable structural foundation is already in place. Reshaping a lip border or refining under-eye hollows on a face that has not been assessed for its underlying structure and skin quality can produce a result that looks disconnected rather than balanced.
This is why we sequence treatment the way we do at SW1 Clinic. We assess which of these three foundation treatments, if any, a patient’s face actually needs, in what combination, and in what order, before moving on to smaller detail work. Not every patient needs all three. Some need one. The assessment, not the treatment menu, decides.
What comes next
In Part 3 of this series, we turn to the Micro Edit: the smaller, more targeted treatments applied once this base layer is in place, including the treatment we consider the hero of that group, RevitaLift Lips.
For skin maintenance between foundation sessions, our sister spa SW1 Spa offers supportive facials, and our sister retail line SW1 Shop carries the home skincare we recommend to support results between visits.
Who tends to be suitable
Suitability for any of these three treatments is decided at consultation, not before it. Broadly, patients earlier in the ageing process, with good skin quality and mild changes in structure, often do well starting with a lighter combination, perhaps Youth Preserve alone or paired with Thermatight. Patients with more noticeable laxity, or who have not addressed structural change before, are more often assessed for Ultherapy Prime as part of the plan.
Previous treatment history matters too. What has already been done, when, and how the skin responded all inform what the base layer should look like this time. A plan that ignores treatment history is really just a guess.

Results may vary. All treatments are physician-administered or supervised, and subject to clinical suitability assessment at consultation.
