Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in the body, found in the skin, joints, and connective tissue. Its role is to attract and retain moisture, keeping tissue plump and hydrated. Over time, natural HA levels in the delicate areas around the eyes and lips decline, contributing to volume loss, thinning, and the appearance of tired-looking hollows or fine lines.

When carefully injected into targeted areas such as the tear troughs (under-eyes) or the lips, hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are understood to add subtle volume beneath the skin and attract moisture from surrounding tissue. For the eyes, this may help to smooth hollows and reduce the appearance of dark shadows; for the lips, it may help to enhance shape, define borders, and restore lost plumpness.

While both hyaluronic acid fillers and surgical procedures (such as blepharoplasty for the eyes or surgical lip lifts) aim to address signs of ageing or enhance facial features, they differ significantly in approach and recovery. Surgical options involve incisions, tissue repositioning, or removal, requiring anaesthesia and a significant recovery period. HA lip and eye fillers, by contrast, are non-surgical and administered through precise, fine injections, though some temporary effects such as swelling or bruising may be expected following treatment in these sensitive areas. Also, hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved using an enzyme called hyaluronidase if needed.
