Abnormal breast tissue can be present outside of the normal breast location. The axilla (armpit) is such an area where we can sometimes find abnormal breast tissue. Axillary breast tissue can affect shoulder movement and result in irritation from clothing. It can also undergo monthly premenstrual changes such as tenderness and swelling. These symptoms may be exacerbated and become more apparent during puberty and pregnancy. As they are all cosmetically unsightly, most women complain that they are unable to wear sleeveless tops.
In the past, removal of axillary breast requires surgical excision which results in a fairly long scar. However we can now effectively remove breast tissue with liposuction. This results in a shorter recovery period as well as an inconspicuous scar.
