Threadlifts are gaining popularity in the world of aesthetic treatments and why not? Touted as a non-surgical method to treat skin laxity in jowls and cheeks, threadlifts can help to give skin a lift where it’s needed using sutures or threads placed under the skin. Besides creating a lifting effect, the threads stimulate collagen production to promote more supple, youthful looking skin. Patients who have undergone this procedure typically notice an improvement in skin tone and firmness over time.

While the risks for threadlifts are generally minimal with results expected to last up to 3 years, there are still a few things you should know and expect after a threadlift procedure.

Avoid exercise after a threadlift

It’s recommended that you not participate in any strenuous exercise for 7 days post-procedure. Any form of exercise that cause your heart rate and blood flow to increase, such as running, biking and even weightlifting may lead to swelling and prolong the healing process.

Don’t sleep on your stomach

Sleeping on your front or on your stomach places pressure on your face or the treated area. This may result in swelling, discomfort, bruising and even non-optimal results. This sleeping position should be avoided at all costs in the first 5 nights post-procedure.

If front sleeping is your default position, it might help to practice sleeping on your back a few weeks prior to your treatment. Another method that has worked is to build a towel fort around yourself to prevent yourself from rolling onto your front in the middle of your sleep.

Avoid facials and facial massages

Since we know pressure isn’t good for threadlifts so soon after treatment, facial massages should be avoided. Pressure on this part of the face could increase the risk of swelling, bruising and even forcing the threads to move out of place by accident.

Facials too can place unnecessary pressure on the face and the use of chemicals found in the skincare products used during facials could irritate the skin where your threads have been placed.

No-no to alcohol and smoking

Alcohol is a known diuretic and will flush out any excess water and even nutrients that are essential for skin health. Plus, consuming alcohol increases your blood pressure. Smoking is another activity that increases your blood pressure. It also constricts your blood vessels, reducing the efficacy of nutrients flowing in your bloodstream.

Both alcohol and smoking should be avoided 2 weeks post-treatment for optimal healing and results from threadlifts.

Stay away from hot showers and saunas

When you expose your skin to prolonged heat, your blood pressure gets elevated. During the initial healing period, it’s important that you maintain your blood pressure within normal range. Keep yourself well hydrated while staying away from hot showers, saunas, tanning beds, steam rooms and sun tanning.
