Full, pillowy lips have been a beauty mainstay in recent years, with many pining for the likes of Angelina Jolie’s and Kylie Jenner’s lips. While some are blessed with full lips, it’s no secret that going for filler treatments to plump up one’s lips is a popular option in the 21st century.

These days, fillers aren’t the only viable option if you’re looking to achieve more volume in your lips, naturally. A new treatment known as the Lip Flip has been highly sought-after recently and here’s everything you need to know about it.

What is a Lip Flip?

The name itself may sound dubious but trust us when we say this is a non-invasive nor a non-surgical procedure. It’s a treatment that injects a small amount of Botox into the muscle just above your top lips. This relaxes the muscle around your upper lip, which results in your upper lip ‘rolling out’, creating the appearance of more volume as well as stopping your top lip from moving up too far when you smile.

This procedure doesn’t change the volume of your lips, it just gets rearranged.

What’s the procedure like?

Before the procedure

3 to 4 days before the procedure, you’re advised to avoid alcohol and blood thinners as this can make the swelling worse.

During the procedure

The procedure is generally quick, with Botox being injected into the centre and corners of your upper lip. The treatment is virtually pain-free and it’s unlikely you will require a numbing cream.

After the procedure

Post-procedure, you’re recommended to avoid smoking for a few days after as this may increase the risk of infection. Do also avoid rubbing or massaging your lips which can cause the Botox to spread. Do sleep on your back for a few days after the procedure to prevent your lips from pressing against the pillow.

Who’s a good candidate?

The lip flip procedure is suitable for those who would like to achieve the appearance of fuller lips without filler, and think their upper lip disappears when they smile, or would like their smile to appear less gummy, ie showing more gums than you’d like.

When can I see results?

You should start to see results in a few days after the procedure with the full effects of the lip flip approximately 10 to 14 days after.

As with other Botox treatments, a lip flip is not permanent, with results lasting around 2 to 3 months. When you notice the results wearing off, you can opt to maintain your results by having additional Botox injections.

Lip flips are generally less expensive than Fillers as the procedure uses very few units of Botox. If you are thinking of getting this procedure done, be sure to seek out a certified and experienced aesthetic doctor who is able to help you achieve your desired results.

How much does a Lip Flip cost?

Only small doses of Botox is used for a Lip Flip and is considered a much more affordable option than Fillers. This procedure can be done at SW1 Clinic starting from $250.
